ABSTRACT

All coronavirus, including SARS-CoV-2, encode two proteases needed for the processing of PP1A and PP1AB polyproteins. The main protease 3CL (chemotripsine-like) gives rise to the formation of NSP11/16 proteins. The 3CL protease has been constituted as one of the possible therapeutic targets for the development of antiviral drugs against SARS-COV-2 due to its highly conserved sequence and structure among all coronaviruses. During the SARS-COV-1 pandemic, a hydroxymethyl ketone derivative (PF-00835231) was identified with an intense inhibitory activity against the 3CL protease. Subsequent chemical modifications gave rise to derivative PF-07321332 (nirmatrelvir) which has shown a high antiviral efficacy against SARS-COV-2. The company's data indicate that it is capable of reducing 89% the risk of hospitalization and death of patients infected with hardly adverse effects. Its effectiveness improves if it is administered orally in the first 24-48 hours and the duration of treatment has been established between 3-5 days. The commercial form has been associated with the antiviral ritonavir that has shown the metabolism of nirmatrelvir, lengthening its average life. This antiviral would be effective against current and future viral variants, since 3CL is not modified in them. The FDA approved this antiviral in November 2021 and EMA is in the final evaluation phase.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the admission of a high number of patients to the ICU, generally due to severe respiratory failure. Since the appearance of the first cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection, at the end of 2019, in China, a huge number of treatment recommendations for this entity have been published, not always supported by sufficient scientific evidence or with methodological rigor necessary. Thanks to the efforts of different groups of researchers, we currently have the results of clinical trials, and other types of studies, of higher quality. We consider it necessary to create a document that includes recommendations that collect this evidence regarding the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19, but also aspects that other guidelines have not considered and that we consider essential in the management of critical patients with COVID-19. For this, a drafting committee has been created, made up of members of the SEMICYUC Working Groups more directly related to different specific aspects of the management of these patients.

ABSTRACT

The recent increase in user interaction with social media has completely changed the way customers communicate their opinions, questions, and concerns to brands. For this reason, many companies have established on the top of their agendas the necessity of analyzing the high amounts of user-generated content data in social networks. These analyses are helping brands to understand their customers' experiences as well as for maintaining a competitive advantage in the sector. Due to this fact, this study aims to analyze and characterize the public opinions from the messages posted by Twitter users while addressing customer services. For this purpose, this study carried out a content analysis of a customer service platform. We extracted the general users' viewpoints and sentiments of each of the discussed topics by using a wide range of techniques, such as topic modeling, document clustering, and opinion mining algorithms. For training these systems and drawing conclusions, a dataset containing tweets from the English-speaking customers addressing the @Uber_Support platform during the year 2020 has been used.

ABSTRACT

In the immediate future and the medium term, activities of Scientific and Technological Research, Human Resource Training, and Linkage and Social Appropriation of Knowledge will suffer the hardships of the new restrictions imposed by the new reality of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Societies, economies, Research and Higher Education Institutions that manage to adapt faster to these new challenges and have the structural capacities to make their processes flexible, will have a better chance to fastly overcome this global contingency. In Mexico, un-der the perspective of social transfer of knowledge, far from being a disruptive phenomenon, the evolution that this transfer has followed seems to find –from the confinement and impact of the COVID 19 pandemic–real possibilities of increasing interest for science topics and the opportunity of accessing them through the use of information technologies (ICTs). This is the case of actions for the social transfer of knowledge in a public research center, Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas del Noroeste, S.C. (CIBNOR), in which digital platforms have been consolidated to positively face the times. In this work, detailed, concrete and specific recom-mendations are provided so that the public institutions of research and Higher Education in Mexico can adapt to the new reality imposed by the pandemic as efficiently and functionally as possible in terms of scientific, humanistic and technological research, the training of human resources, and in the linkage and social appropriation of knowledge. © 2020 Terra Latinoamericana.
